Giant Penis Outside Casa Rosso. The most well-endowed fountain in the city. A tribute to what makes the Red Light District tick.
Anne Frank Huis. This museum poignantly preserves the memory of Anne Frank. Walk behind the secret, movable bookcase to enter the small rooms that sheltered the Frank family from 1942 to 1944, during the invasion of Nazi Germany.
Canal Cruises. A quick trip down one of the many canals of Amsterdam to take scenic photos.
Central Station. The city's most under-appreciated (and only) train station. Keep one eye on its architecture, and one eye on your wallet.
Red Light District. After you giggle at the giant penis fountain, press up with the crowd of tourists to get the best glimpse of the naked women in the windows marked by strings of the infamous red lights. You're in good company: pushers, pimps, and prostitutes can all be found here.
Heineken Brewery. It's educational, really. Or, just enjoy the drinks at the end, and revel in your one opportunity to spend a day in the life of a beer.
Westerkerk Towers. This is the place for the photos that you can send back to Grandma. You'll find the best views of the city from here.
Nieuwe Kerk. The Nieuwe Kerk has risen from the flames time after time to throw its shadow upon Dam Square. Duck inside to admire some of the prettiest stained glass in the city or to gape at the imposing organ.
Leidseplein. Night or day, this area is bustling with activity, with locals and tourists alike. Your head will spin with shops, restaurants, bars, and clubs all clamoring for your attention.
Vondelpark. Picnic in the sun, and let the street performers, musicians, and jugglers entertain you here.
Hofjes. Wander through the Jordaan to find the beautiful almshouses once subsidized by the Catholic Church as housing for the poor and elderly. The front of an almshouse looks like any other canal house, but hides stunning courtyards and gardens.
Magere Brug. You can't play tourist in Amsterdam without oohing and aahing at the canals and rivers, but don't forget the bridges that cross over them. The most famous is the Magere Brug, a still-working drawbridge across the Amstel.
Paradiso. No podunk bands play here. Paradiso hosts big names that have included Lenny Kravitz and the Stones. Come on in and party with a rock star.
National Monument and Royal Palace on the dam. Another great photo opportunity in Amsterdam.
